An intensive Summer Seminar - 60 teaching hours in 2 weeks! - with ahighly challenging program. Lectures from top international faculty will alternate with presentations and discussions with high level


decision-makers. Among the over 20 speakers that will participate in the summer seminar: the Vice President of the European Convention, Prof. Giuliano Amato; Prof. Andrew Moravcsik from Princeton University; Prof.John McCornick from Indiana University; Prof. Michelle Bertho from U.C.Berkeley; Dr. Dennis Landsbert-Noon, Publisher of ‘European Voice’; Dr.Charis Xirouchakis, Head of the Public Relations of the Council of EU Ministers, Dr. Roberto Menotti of the Aspen Institute, etc.. The Director of the Summer Seminar is Dr. Federiga Bindi, Jean Monnet Professor of European Political Integration at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.



The Summer Seminar will be divided into two modules of 30 hours each.

Part 1 will analyze the internal dimension of the European Union: the degree of integration after the last enlargement, the European

Constitution, the Democratic deficit, decision making and policy making processes, the state of the Lisbon Process. Part 2 will bring into discussion the external relations of the Union and will tackle with issues such as Transatlantic Relations and other EU External Relations, European Foreign and Security Policy, Commercial Policy, Cooperation for Development, Promotion and Defense of Democracy and Human Rights, etc.



The Jean Monnet Summer Seminar is open to graduate students as well as outstanding undergraduate senior students. Young professionals are also welcome to improve their education in an international and multicultural dimension. Offering 8 ECTS (4 more credits for those writing a paper of 5000 words on a topic assigned by the organizers and to be defend in Rome), its objective is to create mutual understanding and networks among the leaders of tomorrow and to offer them top-level education in a challenging and stimulating environment. The selection is highly competitive, in the first round on 1/3 were finally accepted, in order to secure the participation of most brilliant young scholars and a truly international mix of people.



A highly competitive fee (1290 or 1390 € according to the credits, 1/3 reduction for UACES members) and a prize of 1000 € prize for the beststudent. Possibility to stay at a nearby hotel, at a students’ residents or at local students’ houses for a minimum fee (around 200 € for the two weeks).
